SMART – Using Social Media and Mobile Technologies to Promote Improved Health Behaviors
SMART, Social/Mobile Approach to Reduce Weight, was funded by NIH's National Heart Lung and Blood Institute as part of the EARLY trials: Early Adult Reduction in weight through Lifestyle. The aim was to determine how to prevent and/or reduce weight gain in young adults that leads to obesity in middle age. Most of the EARLY trials deployed some form of technology as part of their intervention strategy. SMART leveraged a combination of mobile phone applications, SMS and Facebook.
